Local "Hotline Bling" inspired commercial goes viral

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- "Hotline Bling" is the music video that captured the country's attention-- because of that catchy tune and beat, and because of Drake's "interesting" dance moves.

"I've never seen anyone else do them, but Drake," said local hip-hop artist, B Simm.

Soon after the video's release came the hilarious memes, and then an ad during last weekend's Super Bowl. Before that spot had the chance to make air, creative commercial minds, locally, beat national advertisers to the punch.

A few months back, Attorney Jeff Gorski needed some promotion. He enlisted the help of WDRB Creative Director, Matt Fulks.
He got in touch with Simm.

They got started by writing some "Hotline Bling" themed lyrics and recording them at Bourbon Barrel Studios.

"We put the beat on, and that's where the magic started," said Simm

A green screen was used to recreate the music video's set. Meanwhile, B Simm had Drake's look and "moves" down pat.

"I had to watch a lot of Drake to kind of emulate it, and then I incorporated my own style," explained Simm.

After the spot aired on TV and was posted to the web, it went viral.

"Within the first like 6 hours, there was like 7 thousand views on it, and 100 shares," said Fulks.

The attorney, the commercial represents, can't even get the words out of his head.

It proves a catchy song, some advertisers who know what they're doing, and a little cheese can go a long way.

"It's kind of encouraged me to figure out what we're going to do for the next one," Gorski said.
