LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) – This is the point in the college basketball season when I want to vote for Vacant as the Number One team in the nation.

Perhaps for the Number Two team as well.

Ten ranked teams lost Saturday – eight to unranked opponents. Of the 25 teams that I voted in my Top 25 last week, 18 lost at least once since Monday.

On to my ballot. You could probably talk me out of several choices.

1. Villanova (22-3) – I’d never pick this team to win the national title, but it’s time to vote the Wildcats on top.

2. Kansas (21-4) – Beating West Virginia and Oklahoma qualifies as a nice week.

3. Oklahoma (20-4) – Lost to Kansas again.

4. Iowa (20-5) – Lost at Indiana.

5. North Carolina (21-4) – Still the team to beat in the ACC.

6. West Virginia (20-5) – Lost at Kansas.

7. Virginia (20-5) – Lost at Duke.

8. Xavier (22-3) – Lost at Creighton.

9. Michigan State (21-5) – Lost at Purdue.

10. Maryland (22-4) – Lost at home to Wisconsin.

11. Miami (20-4) – One of the rare teams with a 2-0 week.

12. Arizona (21-5) – Dusted the Los Angeles schools at home.

13. Kentucky (19-6) – I told you it was too soon to dismiss the Wildcats.

14. Louisville (19-6) – Several teams would lose at Duke and Notre Dame.

15. Purdue (20-6) – Lost at Michigan.

16. SMU (21-3) – Lost at home to Tulsa.

17. Dayton (21-3) – The team to beat in the Atlantic 10.

18.Oregon (20-6) – Lost weekend in the Bay Area.

19. Iowa State (18-7) – Lost at Texas Tech.

20. Notre Dame (18-7) – The Irish have won three in a row but go on the road for their next three.

21. Duke (19-6) – Beating Louisville and Virginia was a nice week.

22. Texas (16-9) – They say you won’t want to play the Longhorns in March.

23. St. Joseph’s (21-4) – The Hawks have won 10 of 11.

24. Wichita State (18-7) – Lost at home to Northern Iowa.

25. Indiana (20-6) – Lost at Michigan State.

Dropped out: Texas A&M, USC, LSU, Providence.
