LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville Metro Police have arrested a man authorities say was shot by the very woman he was in the process of assaulting and robbing.

John Ganobick, 27, was arrested for robbing a woman inside a parking garage in downtown Louisville on Jan. 26, according to an official police report.

Police say Ganobick allegedly began following the victim to her vehicle. Authorities say the victim said she noticed Ganobick following her inside the 4th Street Live! food court to a parking garage located at 425 South 5th Street.

Officials say Ganobick got on the elevator with the victim and rode with her to the 6th floor. Investigators say the victim also stated Ganobick "made her feel uneasy." According to police, when the elevator opened the victim began running towards her vehicle. That's when police say Ganobick began chasing the victim.

Investigators say as the woman tried to get into her car, Ganobick slammed her head into an unknown object and demanded her money.

Officials say Ganobick pulled out a knife and "was thrusting his knee into the victim." Police also say the victim told authorities that Ganobick was "thrusting knife towards her torso." The victim also said Ganobick tried to push her into the passenger seat.

According to police, the victim said she was afraid Ganobick "would attempt to rape and murder her." The victim pulled out a gun, but it did not fire, according to police.

Police say Ganobick then punched the woman in the face and "thrusted knife towards her head." The arrest report says the victim's gun fired and the attack ended. Police told WDRB News later that day that the suspect had been shot.

Ganobick is charged with robbery, assault and wanton endangerment.
