Southeast Christian Church to build 'Chapel in the Woods'
Southeast Christian Church has announced plans to build a traditional-style chapel near its main campus on Blankenbaker Parkway in east Louisville.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Southeast Christian Church has announced plans to build a traditional-style chapel near its main campus on Blankenbaker Parkway in east Louisville.
The new facility, which is tentatively being called the 'Chapel in the Woods,' will be located on 18 acres near Watterson Trail and Moser Road, according to a news release. The land is owned by Southeast. Construction is slated to begin in 2016, with hopes to open the facility in 2017. The 40,000 square foot facility will be divided between a 17,750 foot main chapel and two attached building wings.
According to the news release, 80 percent of the ground floor parking will be less than 200 feet from the main entrance.
The traditional feel of the chapel will be augmented by church pews and stained glass windows. A gazebo will also be constructed for use in weddings.
Senior Pastor Dave Stone said in the news release that the chapel will provide, "opportunities for additional worship service formats for young and old alike," adding that, "in light of the needs and the fact that God has provided us with that land, the elders have decided to construct a traditional style chapel facility."
It is also hoped that the chapel would be used for traditional style weddings, as well as funerals.
