LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The United States gained 153 new citizens during a naturalization ceremony in Louisville today.

People from 46 countries were sworn in as new citizens at the Muhammad Ali Center this morning. Thirty-five are from war-torn countries.

They say the naturalization ceremony was an emotional moment.

"I can't tell you. I'm free. It's a new world for me, a new life," said Oday Abbas. "All my family, they are here. I told you, I'm so excited. I have so many plans in my mind. We will change everything here."

Representatives from the Secretary of State's Office and the League of Women Voters were there to hand out voter registration cards after the ceremony.
