Louisville athletics board approves contract extension offer for Petrino

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — The University of Louisville Athletics Association board has approved the offer of a contract extension to football coach Bobby Petrino, but terms have not been disclosed because a new contract has not been agreed upon.

Petrino’s original deal, with a base salary of $3 million annually plus incentives, was signed in 2014.

After the Cardinals finished 9-4 this past season, Louisville athletic director Tom Jurich said enhancing Petrino’s contract would be a priority.

“I think he’s done a great job and exceeded all my expectations from when I brought him back,” Jurich said. “. . . I’m very pleased with the direction we’re going and poised for a great future with him.”

Jurich also told the Athletic Association board that the Thortons Academic Center should be finished in July.

There were no updates on the NCAA’s investigation into the men’s basketball program.
