LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Millions of dollars went to a Jefferson County Public Schools reading program, and for the past seven years, it has been spent on something else.

A WDRB investigation reveals that funds for the "Every 1 Reads" program have been paying for nurses at schools.

JCPS says it has done nothing wrong.

"I wouldn't say it's not legal by any means," says Cordelia Hardin, the district's chief financial officer.

But some lawmakers disagree, after we revealed our findings.

“If they misuse it or spend it for something else, that's a misappropriation," said Rep. Jim Wayne, D-Louisville.

"That's essentially stealing from the fund we have designated it for. That's illegal."

In this week's Sunday Edition, we reveal the district's explanation ... and the action some lawmakers want to take.

The story will post online at 6 a.m. Sunday and will air on WDRB News at 10 on Sunday night.
