LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- JCPS held its first ever VEX robotic tournament Saturday.

The regional "RoboRumble VEX and Lego Robotics" competition included teams from district and parochial schools.

More than 1,000 students competed, building robots that solve an engineering challenge presented in the form of a game.

It encourages kids to actively learn about science, technology, engineering and math.

"They really really emphasize the teamwork and what it takes to be an engineer. You may fail the first time, but you keep on keep on trying until you get it right."

Jeffersontown High School won the event.

Those students will advance to state, then possibly the world championships held *n Louisville in April.
