LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) --  Columbia Sussex, a Northern Kentucky company that owns and operates chain hotels, placed a legal ad in Friday’s Courier-Journal indicating its intent to apply for a liquor license at the Galt House – a move suggesting Louisville’s largest hotel might have a new owner soon.

But a spokeswoman for the Al J. Schneider Co., which owns the Galt House, said the hotel is not under contract and that the Schneider Co. is not – “to my knowledge” – exploring a sale of the hotel.

“We’re just as shocked as anyone” to see the liquor license ad placed, said Amanda Lambert, the Schneider Co.’s marketing communications manager.

She declined to comment on Columbia Sussex.

A message left at Columbia Sussex was not immediately returned.

The ad was placed by CP Galt House LLC, a Kentucky company formed on Jan. 15 which lists Columbia Sussex’s address in Crestview Hills, Kentucky as its principal office.

Columbia Sussex has 39 hotels – mostly Marriott and Hilton brands – according to its website.
