Ind. Senate Committee approves resolution to name part of I-65 after John Mellencamp

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Indiana Senate Transportation Committee has approved a resolution to name part of Interstate 65 after singer John Mellencamp.

The measure would rename the 16-mile corridor from Austin to Seymour John Mellencamp Way.

The singer grew up in Seymour and drew inspiration for his music from his small town life. Officials say Mellencamp's loyalty to the state of Indiana is undeniable.

Some of his greatest hits tell the story of his life in the Midwest, including "Jack and Diane" and "Pink Houses."
