LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A teenager has been hospitalized with "very significant" burns after he says an aerosol deodorant can exploded, according to the Fern Creek Fire Department.

According to Chief Mike Schmidt of the Fern Creek Fire Department, fire officials were called to Brookridge Village Boulevard, near the interchange between Bardstown Road and the Gene Snyder Freeway, shortly before 3 p.m. on a report that a person had been burned at that location.

Schmidt said investigators found a 14-year-old with "very significant" burns on his face, shoulders, chest and stomach.

According to Schmidt, the injuries were sustained in Bullitt County. The teen's sister then tried to drive him to the hospital, but his pain became so intense that she pulled over and called 911.

Schmidt said the teen was transported to Kosair Children's Hospital.

He said he was not able to determine if the injuries were life threatening.
