HARDIN COUNTY, Ky. (WDRB) -- Escaped inmate Lostia Shreves was hiding at a vacant home in the Flint Hill area of Hardin County on Monday afternoon and the Sheriff's Department is warning people to lock their homes.

"She's scared and on the run and I'm sure she doesn't want to go back to prison. So, you put anyone in a certain situation, they can be dangerous," said Hardin County's Sheriff John Ward.

Shreves, of Cecelia, Ky., escaped from the Western Kentucky Correctional Complex on Wednesday, Feb. 17.

On Monday morning, carpenters arrived at a barn they planned to restore. Inside the barn was a parked truck. The barn had been deserted for a long time. The carpenters called the truck in to local authorities.

"Yesterday afternoon we had a deputy locate a vehicle, run a tag on a pick up truck on Lewis Loop in the Flint Hill area of Hardin County. The tag came back stolen. He located a male subject down near the vehicle and arrested him for stolen property," said Ward

That man, Randy Harrington, was taken into custody.

"It was discovered that he was there with the escapee. They had been staying in a vacant home there on Lewis Loop and evidently she went out the back of the residence into the wooded area when she noticed the deputy approaching Mr. Harrington. We set up a perimeter up and a K-9 was called and they conducted a search to no avail," said Ward.

Authorities brought in a helicopter to search the area and did not have any sightings of the escapee. She is still at large.

The Sheriff's Office cannot say if Shreves is dangerous at this point, but warns people to be aware of their surroundings.

"We want them to be cautious of opening the door because normally when you have a lady come to your door, especially at night or something, you immediately think something is wrong and we just want to let people know to use caution answering the door. Make sure you keep your home locked and also your vehicles locked," said Ward.

If anyone sees Lostia Shreves, officials ask you to call 911 immediately.
