RAW VIDEO | Kentucky cruises past Alabama, 78-53, behind Murray's 23 points

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Coming off a last-second loss to Texas A&M on Saturday in which it lost a starter to injury, there were questions as to how the University of Kentucky basketball team would respond Tuesday night at Rupp Arena.

But as it turns out, for the second time this season, Alabama is the perfect medicine for a team of Wildcats coming off a loss.

UK blitzed the Crimson Tide from the opening tip Tuesday, cruising to a 78-53 win in Lexington.

The Wildcats were happy to get senior forward Alex Poythress back after he had missed the previous five games with a knee injury.

It wasn't on par with the career-high 25 points he had in Tuscaloosa, Ala., last month, but Poythress added 14 points in just 17 minutes.

The real star Tuesday night, though, was freshman guard Jamal Murray, who continues to score at a rate not seen in the John Calipari era at UK.

Murray celebrated his 19th birthday by scoring 23 points and four rebounds.

He's now averaging 19.3 points per game.

Freshman guard Tyler Ulis filled up the stat sheet, adding 19 points, 10 assists and five rebounds for his sixth double-double of the season.

The UK defense did its part too, holding Alabama to 35 percent shooting from the field.

The Wildcats travel to Nashville on Friday to take on Vanderbilt at 4 p.m.
