LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Police arrested a Louisville woman authorities say was found sleeping in a car with her young child after smoking marijuana and spice.

Helen Maddox, 34, was arrested Tuesday at Carroll Avenue and Durrett Lane, according to the official police report.

Authorities say officers responded to a call about a person asleep inside a vehicle with a baby in the back seat. When officers arrived, they located the car still in drive at a stop sign.

Police observed Maddox asleep in the driver's seat. Officials also say a co-defendant was found sleeping in the front passenger seat. The police report says Maddox's 1-year-old daughter was crying in the back seat of the vehicle.

A witness told officers the car was still in drive and that Maddox's foot was on the brake. Police say an officer reached through the open front driver's side window and put the car in park, while Maddox and the co-defendant were still sleeping.

Police say the pair woke up and Maddox admitted she had smoked marijuana. Both Maddox and her co-defendant told officers they had smoked spice prior to officers arriving at the scene. Investigators say the co-defendant stated he had the rest of the spice in his pocket.

Maddox is charged with DUI and wanton endangerment.
