'Beautiful,' 'Kinky  Boots,' and 'The Little Mermaid' highlight 2016-17 Broadway Series

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Magic, dancing, mermaids and a legendary songwriter are part of the next season of the Broadway Series. 

The 2016-17 season features five shows including "The Sound of Musice," "Disney's The Little Mermaid," "The Illusionists: Live from Broadway," "Beautiful - the Carole King Musical," and "Kinky Boots."  And returning to Louisville as season options will be "Riverdance: The 20th Anniversary World Tour and "The Book of Mormon."

Season tickets go on sale Thursday, February 25, 2016 with a five-show package starting at $160 dollars.

2016-2017 Season Shows: 

"The Sound of Music" - January 17-22, 2017

The spirited, romantic and beloved musical story of Maria and the von Trapp Family will once again thrill audiences with its Tony®, Grammy® and Academy Award® winning Best Score, including "My Favorite Things," "Do-Re-Mi," "Climb Ev'ry Mountain," "Edelweiss" and the title song. "The Sound of Music" enjoyed extraordinary success as the first live television production of a musical in over 50 years when "The Sound of Music Live!" aired on NBC in December, 2013 and was seen by over 44 million people. 2015 marked the 50th anniversary of the film version, which continues to be the most successful movie musical in history. 

"Disney's The Little Mermaid" - February 14-19, 2017

In a magical kingdom fathoms below, we meet Ariel, the little mermaid, who is tired of flipping her fins and longs to be part of the fascinating world on dry land. Joining her are Sebastian, Ariel's crabby sidekick; Ursula, the evil sea witch; Triton, King of the Sea and the handsome and human Prince Eric. Based on the Disney animated film and hit Broadway musical featuring all of the songs you know and love, and a few new ones.

"The Illusionists" - March 14-19, 2017

This mind blowing spectacular showcases the jaw dropping talents of seven of the most incredible Illusionists on earth.  "The Illusionists - Live from Broadway" has shattered box office records across the globe and dazzles audiences of all ages with a powerful mix of the most outrageous and astonishing acts ever to be seen on stage.  This non-stop show is packed with thrilling and sophisticated magic of unprecedented proportions.

"Beautiful" - May 16-21, 2017

Long before she was Carole King, chart-topping music legend, she was Carol Klein, Brooklyn girl with passion and chutzpah. "Beautiful - The Carole King Musical" tells the inspiring true story of King's remarkable rise to stardom, from being part of a hit songwriting team with her husband Gerry Goffin, to her relationship with fellow writers and best friends Cynthia Weil and Barry Mann, to becoming one of the most successful solo acts in popular music history.  Featuring a stunning array of beloved songs written by Gerry Goffin/Carole King and Barry Mann/Cynthia Weil, including "I Feel The Earth Move," "One Fine Day," "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman," "You've Got A Friend" and the title song, "Beautiful." 

"Kinky Boots" - June 13-18, 2017

"Kinky Boots" is Broadway's huge-hearted, high-heeled hit! With songs by Grammy® and Tony® winning pop icon Cyndi Lauper, this joyous musical celebration is about the friendships we discover, and the belief that you can change the world when you change your mind. Inspired by true events, KINKY BOOTS takes you from a gentlemen's shoe factory in Northampton to the glamorous catwalks of Milan. The show won six Tony awards including Best Musical, Best Score and Best Choreography.

"The Book of Mormon" - November 29-December 4, 2016

Hailed by The New York Times as "the best musical of this century" and the winner of nine Tony Awards®, "The Book of Mormon" is the blockbuster Broadway smash from "South Park" creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone, and the Oscar®-winning composer of Disney's Frozen and Avenue Q, Bobby Lopez.  This outrageous musical comedy follows the misadventures of a mismatched pair of missionaries, sent halfway across the world to spread the Good Word.

"Riverdance" - April 10-12, 2017

The international Irish dance phenomenon is back by popular demand in "Riverdance - The 20th Anniversary World Tour." Drawing on Irish traditions, the combined talents of the performers propel Irish dancing and music into the present day, capturing the imagination of audiences across all ages and cultures in an innovative and exciting blend of dance, music and song. Of all the performances to emerge from Ireland - in rock, music, theatre and film - nothing has carried the energy, the sensuality and the spectacle of "Riverdance."

Season tickets for the 2016-2017 PNC Broadway in Louisville Season will go on sale Thursday, February 25 with three convenient ways to purchase:

1.Select your seats in person at the PNC Broadway in Louisville Box Office at 620 W Main Street, Ste 100, Monday - Friday, 9:00am-5:00pm

2. Order online 7 days a week/24 hours a day at www.BroadwayinLouisville.com. 

3. Call the Broadway Across America toll-free Louisville Season Ticket Hotline at 502-561-1003. The Hotline hours are Monday - Friday, 9:00am-6:00pm.

Prices for the five-show season ticket package range between $160 and $620 depending on seat location.

Tickets for individual shows are not available at this time and typically go on sale to the general public 4-6 weeks prior to the opening of the show.
