Toll-related graffiti, vandalism reported at Kennedy Bridge

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) – Several pieces of construction equipment were vandalized on the Kennedy Bridge between Wednesday night and Thursday morning.

Graffiti found included “KY IN Toll Party” and “Taxes built this bridge”.

Mindy Peterson with the Ohio River Bridges Project says the vandalism included that spray painting, as well as damage to lights, tools, and other equipment.

The vandals apparently also emptied the contents of a tool trailer into the Ohio River. Many of those tools belonged to the individual workers and not the company, Walsh Construction.

“I think it’s a shame that people do that,” said Sean Clark, a construction worker with Walsh Construction, who works on a different project. “I think it’s pretty bad to damage personal tools, because if a man has to pay for it, it takes away money from his kids to buy new tools.”

Jeffersonville Police are investigating the vandalism. Detectives say they will check the area for cameras that could play a role in identifying the vandals.

Walsh Construction is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and a conviction related to the case.

“I just hate to see stuff like that happen,” said Clark. “I think they need to put cameras up to watch their tools, as well as our tools.”

Peterson says security at the bridge will be increased, beginning Thursday night.

She says she does not anticipate that the vandalism will delay construction on the Kennedy Bridge.
