LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The spring running season officially begins on Saturday morning.

On Friday, runners and walkers picked up their packets for the first leg of the Triple Crown of Running.

The Anthem 5K kicks off at 8 a.m.

Race officials say more than 6,000 people pre-registered for the race. They are hoping to have another 1,000 or 2,000 show up and register.

"The course is the same as it was last year," said Bruce Richmond, race director. "We are running down Main and Market, and running downtown, and coming back up on 8th Street, and running down Main Street towards Slugger Field. So it's a long stretch down Main Street, but it's a beautiful shot."

The start line for the race will is at the intersection of Brook Street and East Market Street. The flat and fast course will run south on Brook Street, then pass through downtown and finish on Main Street, just west of Louisville Slugger Field.
