LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) – This is a season unlike any other in college basketball. It wins the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay. Just don’t ask me for the ending.

Yes, I know Michigan State is tied for second place in the Big Ten. I also know the Spartans have won their last four games by an average of more than 20 points. And – trump card -- they beat Kansas on a neutral court.

The envelope, please.

1. Michigan State (24-5) – It’s simple. I think the Spartans are playing better than anybody right now.

2. Kansas (25-4) – Twelve straight Big 12 titles. Twelve straight Big 12 titles. Twelve straight.

3. Villanova (25-4) – The best of the Big  East.

4. Miami (23-5) – Beating Virginia and Louisville at home is a nice week.

5. West Virginia – The Mountaineers have slipped ahead of Oklahoma into second place in the Big 12.

6. Virginia (22-6) – The Cavaliers are going to need help to win the ACC.

7. Xavier (25-4) – Nice win over Villanova. Nice flop against Seton Hall.

8. North Carolina (23-6) – The Tar Heels will likely have to win at Cameron Saturday to win the ACC.

9. Oregon (23-6) – The Ducks have elbowed their way to the top of the Pac-12.

10. Indiana (23-6) – The Hoosiers have a share of the Big Ten title and can have all of it with another win.

11. Oklahoma (22-6) – The Sooners have lost four of their last seven.

12. Louisville (22-7) – The Cardinals have lost to one team that figures to miss the NCAA Tournament – Clemson.

13. Purdue (22-7) – The Boilermakers failed to win back-to-back games in February.

14. Kentucky (21-8) – Waiting on Derek Willis.

15. Utah (23-7) – The surging Utes have won six straight.

16. Maryland (23-6) – Terps have lost three of their last four.

17. SMU (24-4) – The Mustangs are the class of the AAC.

18. Texas A&M (22-7) – If the Aggies beat Auburn and Vanderbilt, they get at least a share of the SEC title.

19. Iowa (20-8) – The Hawkeyes keep forgetting to get the ball to Jarrod Uthoff.

20. Wichita State  (23-7) -- The Shockers are the class of the Missouri Valley Conference.

21. California (21-8) – Beware the streaking Bears, who beat USC for their seventh straight victory.

22. Duke (21-8) – Something keeps tripping the Blue Devils on the road.

23. Texas (19-10) – The Longhorns have a chance to back their win over Oklahoma with another over Kansas Monday night.

24. Wisconsin (19-10) – Another team that is hot, hot, hot. Badgers have won 10 of 11.

25. St. Mary’s (24-4) – The best of the league Gonzaga used to own.

Dropped out: Arizona, Baylor, VCU.
