Floyd County Sheriff's Department fields several reports of car break-ins

FLOYD COUNTY, Ind. (WDRB) -- The Floyd County Sheriff's Department is reminding people to lock their vehicles.

Floyd County Sheriff Frank Loop said from last Thursday to this past Saturday, the sheriff's department got reports of 14 separate break-ins.

"We want to encourage people to remove the valuable things out of their car and lock their doors,” he said.

Officials said thieves are opening unlocked cars and taking items like sunglasses, CDs and money. They also got reports of a stolen checkbook, gas can and several car seats.

Trinler McCullough said his sister's car was broken into.

“They took her sunglasses, change, medication and her underwear,” he said. “Which was a surprise."

McCullough said the robbers acted quickly.

"We didn't see or hear anything and there were 4 people here at the time,” he said.

Loop also warns about another item thieves like to take out of cars.

"They're taking the garage door opener," said Loop.

Several other neighbors in Floyds Knobs tell WDRB they never lock their cars.

McCullough said it might be a good idea to start.

"Make sure your cars are locked and just have an eye out," said McCullough.

Sheriff Loop said they have not determined whether or not the break-ins are related.

No arrests have been made yet in any of the cases.
