LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Penguins popping up in Lexington is a sign the latest 21C Museum Hotel is opening.

The signature artwork graces the inside and outside of the hotel. An open house on Monday allowed the public a first look at the art galleries and rooms that make up the boutique hotel.

The $43 million project took four years to complete. It's in a restored historic property that was built in 1913 and originally housed a bank.

"It was the city's first skyscraper and has lots of historic elements that we've been able to preserve and complement with contemporary furnishings and art," said spokesperson Molly Swyers.

The concept has taken off since the owners opened the first 21C Museum Hotel in Louisville. The Lexington hotel is the fifth one, with others set to open in Nashville, Kansas City and Oklahoma City.
