Ky. officials say Dept. of Revenue is caught up on tax refund backlog
A backup occurred due to an increase in claims of fraud and identity theft.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Officials say the Kentucky Department of Revenue is caught up on processing a backlog of tax refund requests.
The news was issued on Tuesday through a release.
A backup occurred due to an increase in claims of fraud and identity theft. As a result, officials utilized additional security features.
Authorities say the Department of Revenue has received nearly 800,000 returns. Close to 700,000 of these returns have been processed.
In the future, the department anticipates taxpayers will receive refunds within 14 days when they are filled electronically and without error.
Beginning Tuesday, the department is extending its telephone hours to provide assistance to taxpayers. Taxpayers can call 502-564-4581 from 8 a.m. until 6:30 p.m. E.T. Monday through Friday for assistance with their individual income tax returns. Call center hours will go back to normal on April 19.
