Rounsavall resigns University of Louisville board to allow settlement of minority-representation case

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- University of Louisville trustee Robert Rounsavall has resigned his position to pave the way for Gov. Matt Bevin to appoint two racial-minority members, WDRB has learned.

Trustees chairman Larry Benz, Bevin's office and the Kentucky Justice Resource Center are close to a settling a lawsuit challenging the board's lack of minority representation required by state law.

Rounsavall, who did not return a call for comment, is a real estate businessman in Louisville who has rarely spoken up during trustees meetings.

In February, former Kindred Healthcare CEO Paul Diaz resigned his seat on the board to create a vacancy for Bevin's consideration. Bevin's two appointees could be in place by the board's next meeting April 20.

The board is bitterly divided over support for President James Ramsey, and a motion to express "no confidence" in his leadership is scheduled to come up on April 20.
