New partnership to provide more hot meals for Louisville's elderly and disabled

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A new partnership will provide more hot meals for Louisville's elderly and disabled.

The traditional Meals on Wheels program delivers food to about 400 people, but usually has a waiting list of about 100 seniors -- but thanks to a partnership with Louisville-based nonprofit G-Foundation, a new program will be able to fill that gap.

Meals on Wheels will deliver five, freshly prepared meals each week to qualified seniors until they can get into the traditional program. Officials say the program serves many needs of seniors.

Eric Friedlander, the director of Louisville Metro Community Services, says the partnership will emphasize, "the importance of having a meal, and a nutritious meal, to have a visitor, to end isolation so that folks can live lives of quality in their own homes."

G-Foundation was created in 2013 to reduce hunger, homelessness, mental illness and illiteracy in Kentucky.
