POLICE: Three staff members assaulted at University Hospital
After the patient broke the security guard's ankle, he allegedly turned to a medical doctor and, "actually gave a thumbs up."
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville Metro Police say one man was arrested Thursday night after he assaulted two security guards and a nurse.
According to an arrest report, officers were called to the hospital after someone reported that a man who was being treated for a mental illness, "became aggressive and attacked several security guards."
Police say when they arrived, they found that three employees had to seek medical attention. They included a security guard who was punched in the head and knocked unconscious, another security guard with a broken ankle, and a nurse who was kicked in the leg and received a large cut.
Police say a medical doctor told them that after the patient broke the security guard's ankle, he turned to the doctor and "actually gave a thumbs up."
The doctor allegedly told police that the patient was competent enough to face charges.
Police arrested the man and charged him with two counts of second degree assault and one count of fourth degree assault.
WDRB News is withholding the name of the suspect because police say he is a patient with a mental illness.
