Character witnesses take stand during fourth day of trial of two Carrollton Police officers

Posted: Updated:

CARROLLTON, Ky. (WDRB) -- The reputation of two Carrollton Police officers was the focus Friday as they stood trial for official misconduct and kidnapping.

It was the fourth day of the trial.

This morning, the prosecution rested and during the afternoon, the defense team called several character witnesses to the stand.

Carrollton Mayor Robb Adams took the stand. He was one of several people who testified today.

Former Carrollton Police Chief Michael Willhoite and officer Robb Dickow are charged with kidnapping and official misconduct. The two are on trial for allegedly going against a judge's orders last April.

The judge had rejected a plea deal that would have allowed an inmate to leave the state.

The reason for the trial is that the officers are accused of taking the inmate to Louisville and buying him a one-way bus ticket to Florida, despite the judge's order. Today, several court officials have taken the stand to testify about the two officers' character and integrity.

The trial is expected to wrap up sometime next week. If convicted, the kidnapping charge carries a 20-year prison sentence.
