More than 1,000 students compete in archery tournament at area high school

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- It's not the first sport that comes to mind when you think of school athletics, but archery is growing in popularity.

More than 1,000 students from 45 different schools competed Saturday in the Archery Tournament at Moore Traditional.

In 2002, Moore was the pilot school for the National Archery in Schools Program.

Coaches say archery is a thinking sport, and most students are well-rounded.

There's a bunch of physics involved, and later on in high school, when I continued doing archery, I applied physics and stuff to how I shot and improved myself," Antonio Angelov said.

The Archery State Tournament at the Kentucky International Convention Center will take place March 22.
