Louisville launches solar power initiative

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Louisville Sustainability Council is launching its Solar Over Louisville campaign, to bring more sun-power to Louisville.

It's aimed at promoting the growth of solar energy across the city and is funded through a Neighborhood Development grant from Metro Council.

Louisville currently has about 170,000 watts of solar power. The goal is to have 2 million watts of new solar capacity across the Metro in the coming year.

"We get a couple of industries interested, some educational institutions interested, then we can start moving into the megawatt range and start talking about significant contributions within our grid," the organization's Paul Brooks said.

The announcement was made at Copper and Kings Distillery, which runs on solar power.

There are some tax credits available for solar installation.
