Hemp company launches crowdfunding campaign to bring crops to Kentucky

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A company is enlisting help to get hemp grown in Kentucky.

Hemp Foods America launched a crowdfunding campaign Tuesday.

The organization is trying to raise $50,000 to bring hemp into organic rotation in Kentucky.

"It's such a great place to build a start-up -- be surrounded by so many agriculture experts -- I couldn't imagine a better place to be situated," Hemp Foods America's Chad Rosen said.

The money will also enable the company to buy seeds, oil amendments and other things it needs.

In exchange for pledging to the project, backers will get a variety of perks including hemp clothing, food products and signed works form farmer and activist Wendell Berry.
