LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The new Mayor of Shepherdsville says the city is being held hostage because council members are not showing up for meetings.

Tuesday night's meeting had to be canceled again, just like last month.

Only two people showed up for Tuesday's council meeting -- Gloria Taft and Dana Bischoff James, the wife of the new Mayor Brian James.

James says he was also served lawsuit papers.

Council members Larry Hatfield and Bernie Brown are suing James, some other council members as well as former Mayor Scott Ellis because they think the new Mayor was illegally put in office.

The dilemma started after Ellis resigned amid an investigation of him allegedly offering women favors in exchange for sexual acts. He submitted his resignation on Feb. 9, and James was appointed Mayor a few hours later.

"As the mayor of this city I have no authority over other elected positions, no more authority than the other 13,000 residents of the city," James said after Tuesday's meeting was canceled. "I was here tonight to do my job. They were not here tonight to do their job, and I would really like to see this city move forward."

The next city council meeting is scheduled for March 22.
