Mobile screening unit brings the fight against cancer to you

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Taking the fight against cancer on the road and into your neighborhood.

That's the goal of the new Horses and Hope mobile cancer screening unit.

It made its inaugural first stop in front of City Hall today.

The unit will provide free or significantly reduced-cost cancer screenings for seven different types of the disease.

Some Metro Council members say its message hits close to home.

"Both my parents had cancer," Councilwoman Marianne Bulter (District 15) said. "And for our residents who may not have a car to take them somewhere, to take this to them to get early detection. That will save so many lives."

The unit is scheduled to make stops in the Highview, Okolona, Newburg and Churchill Downs areas in the coming months.
