LOUISVILLE Ky. (WDRB) -- A Kentucky Sheriff's deputy is recovering after he was shot while trying to serve a warrant.

It happened Thursday in Franklin, Kentucky, near the Tennessee state line.

Police say Simpson County deputy sheriff Eddie Lawson went to the home to arrest Ben Wyatt III on domestic violence assault charges.

When the deputy arrived, Wyatt pulled out a gun and shot the Lawson in the pelvis and right knee, according to Kentucky State Police. Lawson returned fire striking Wyatt once in the left arm.

Wyatt then ran from the scene and was captured about 45 minutes later, according to KSP.

Deputy Lawson was taken to Skyline Medical Center in Nashville, where he was in stable condition. The suspect is also in stable condition, according to a KSP news release.
