LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A not guilty plea has been entered on behalf of a teen charged with severely beating a classmate and leaving him for dead.

Henry Perkins, age 18, is charged with assault in connection with the incident that happened Feb. 29 in the woods behind Jeffersontown High School. Another boy and girl who are underage are also charged.

Police say they were part of a group of students who skipped class last week to drink alcohol in the woods. Officers say an argument turned violent and three students punched and kicked the victim in the face, stomach and groin.

The victim was hospitalized with a head injury and was briefly put on a ventilator.

The mother of one of the suspects says her son was only trying to help the victim.

The victim is now out of the hospital.

Police say more arrests are possible.
