LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Irish got the party started Saturday in the Highlands.

Complete with bagpipes and plenty of green, the annual St. Patrick's Day parade marched along Bardstown Road.

The Ancient Order of Hibernians host the event that runs from Baxter Avenue to Mid City Mall.

Hundreds of people lined the route to catch beads and candy thrown to spectators.

"I came from San Diego, and some of my friends said this was a good event to come check out the local flavor and all the Irish culture you guys have here in Louisville,"  I thought what better time than to make for today than to come out here and see it." Joe Hawkins said.

The parade's theme this year was "100 Years Irish Rising."
