Louisville Bats suspend man behind mascot over 'info received from JCPS'

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Louisville Bats have suspended the man behind Buddy the Bat.

Jeremy Sharfe has been with the team as Buddy Bat for more than 14 years.

Bats President and Owner Gary Ulmer tells WDRB the decision was made after "info received from JCPS."

Sharfe was a resource teacher at Doss High School, but has been reassigned to a building with no students.

In a reassignment letter, he was told to have no contact with faculty, staff, parents or students from Doss.

We've also learned Sharfe is under investigation by LMPD, but the scope or nature of that investigation has not been confirmed.

Ulmer says Sharfe is an hourly employee who only works on game nights at the Bats.

But, for now, is suspended.
