LOUISVILLE Ky. (WDRB) -- Homicide detectives are investigating after a person was fatally shot in the Algonquin neighborhood late Tuesday.

It happened around 11:30 p.m. on M Street and Rodman Avenue, near G.G. Moore Park, just a few blocks west of the University of Louisville. When officers arrived they located the victim with several gunshot wounds. He was taken to University Hospital where he died during surgery.

Jefferson County Deputy Coroner Rita Taylor has identified the victim as 19-year-old La'Mont'e Harris. Family members say he leaves behind three children.

Nearby residents say there was chaos before the gunfire erupted. Howard Sneed told us he saw a group of 15 to 20 people running through the park near the shooting scene before he says he heard multiple gunshots. That's when he called police and tried to help the victim.

"He was shot all up through his right side," Sneed said. "He was hollering 'help me! help me!' And I tried to keep him from getting up, holding him down. And a police car came up, and a guy came up and I said we need an ambulance immediately, a guy got shot here."

There are no suspects at this time. Anyone with information is asked to call the LMPD crime tipline at 574-LMPD.
