LOUISVILLE Ky. (WDRB) – The mother of a teenager shot and killed Tuesday night near Churchill Downs says he was a father of three and an aspiring rapper.

According to the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office, La’Mont’e Harris, 19, was shot several times around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday on M Street and Rodman Street.

He was taken to University Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

“When he first came in, he was talking, but the bullet moved and they rushed him straight to surgery. I didn’t get to see him,” the teenager’s mother, Marcella Harris told WDRB News.

Harris says she was at work at the time of the shooting, but she had what she called a “mother’s intuition.”

“My whole body just gave in. I just dropped,” Harris said.

Harris says her son's third daughter was born just two weeks ago.

“He was loved, and he was goofy. So special in so many ways,” described Harris. "Why would you take my baby away from me?"

No arrests have been made.

“Just please, turn yourself in,” Harris said. “That’s all I’m asking. Just please. Turn yourself in and do the right thing. Try to change your life around, because you took something special away from a lot of people.”

Anyone with information on the homicide investigation is asked to call the Louisville Police Anonymous Tipline at 574-LMPD.
