Former Guntown Mountain to be sold at auction
Guntown Mountain in Cave City, Kentucky will soon be on the auction block.
CAVE CITY, Ky. (WDRB) -- Guntown Mountain in Cave City, Kentucky will soon be on the auction block.
A foreclosure auction sale will be held by Tranzon Asset Advisors in cooperation with Barren County Master Commissioner Carla W. Allen, on April 20 at 12 PM central time.
Cave City officials shut down Funtown Mountain in September. A code enforcement officer said the roadside attraction had become a public safety hazard with broken windows and doors and no electricity running due to unpaid bills.
Guntown Mountain first opened in 1969 on Huckleberry Knob Road in Cave City. The 25+ acre site includes a gift shop and craft shops, a former indoor putt-putt golf building, a haunted hotel attraction, and a chair lift at the bottom of Guntown Mountain, along with various storefronts emulating an old west town at the mountain top, including an Opera House, Lucky Lady Saloon, and Guntown Galleria providing assembly seating for shows and entertainment.
Cave City Mayor Dwayne Hatcher was enthusiastic about the upcoming sale.
"I’ve let our citizens know there would be a silver lining to the recent dark cloud over Guntown Mountain and now it’s time for the sun to shine," Hatcher said.
Tranzon Asset Advisors President and CEO Ed Durnil stressed the opportunity that the upcoming auction provides. “Whether you are a buyer, investor, developer or broker,” he said, “it’s going to be hard not to take a look at this unique investment opportunity.”
Interested parties can tour the Guntown Mountain facility on Wednesday, April 13th at 10 AM CT. The sale will take place one week later, on April 20th at 12 PM CT.
