Jeffersonville man accused of torturing family: 'This is a bunch of crap'

JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. (WDRB) – The man accused of torturing his 8-year-old son and the boy’s mother says investigators have the story all wrong.

Terry Dickerson, 49, was arraigned Thursday in Clark County Circuit Court on several charges, including battery, strangulation and confinement.

Investigators say the situation started Friday night at the family’s house on Luther Circle in Jeffersonville.

Court documents allege Dickerson hit his son with a wrench, choked him several times to the point of unconsciousness, and hit him with a board.

The paperwork goes on to say the child’s mother was also hit with a wrench, and strangled, but she was able to get out of the house with the boy, and two other kids, when Dickerson fell asleep.

Dickerson turned himself in to Shively Police on Tuesday.

“Everything that they’re saying right now is totally a lie,” Dickerson told WDRB News outside of arraignment court. “This is a bunch of crap.”

Without going into detail, Dickerson said “something happened,” but not what he’s accused of doing.

“My son is my hero. OK? I did not beat my son. I did not strangle my son,” Dickerson said.

As Dickerson cried in court Thursday, a judge entered not guilty pleas on the suspect’s behalf.

His next hearing was set for 9 a.m. on April 13. A jury trial was initially planned for 9 a.m. on Aug. 9.

Dickerson is being held in the Clark County Detention Center on a $50,000 cash bond.
