LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Doss used a 9-0 run midway through the 4th control to get a lead they never gave up. The Dragons beat Lawrence County 66-57 Thursday in the Boys Sweet Sixteen opening round at Rupp Arena in Lexington.
Kel'Shawn Knight-Goff started the run with a dunk to give Doss a 47-46 lead. Jaylon Hall followed with three of his game-high 23. Knight-Goff got assists on the next two baskets, both lay-ups. First to Nick Anderson on the break and then he left it for Laron Hargrove to make it 54-46. Hall made 13-of-15 free throws, including a number of them late as the Dragons held off Lawrence County.
Next up for Doss is Taylor County, Friday at 6:30 pm. The Cardinals beat Mason County 94-65 behind Senior star Quentin Goodin. He hit 13-of-27 shots for 28 points and 12 rebounds. David Sloan added 18.
South Oldham used a 17-4 third quarter to pull away from Owensboro Catholic in Thursday's nightcap, 58-34. Grant Williams and Jacob Bray each scored 11 for the 8th region champions. They meet South Laurel in the quarterfinals Friday night around 8:30.
