LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Making sure every 5-year-old is ready to for Kindergarten -- that was the goal of a Kindergarten Readiness Summit in west Louisville today hosted by Louisville Community Centers, Inc.
A recent report by JCPS says a large number of children from west Louisville aren't ready for kindergarten. Community members, family leaders, and child care providers were invited to brainstorm solutions to help parents better prepare their children for school.
"The main message today was it starts at home," said Philip Thomas with the Louisville Community Centers Economic Development Board. "A lot of people think this Kindergarten readiness test is this screening or big test it takes a rocket scientist to do. But it's just simple dialogue, having a conversation with your child."
The summit included question and answer sessions with childcare experts, as well as tips and advice for parents.
