LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Colleagues of a central Indiana sheriff's deputy fatally wounded in a weekend gunfight remembered him during a moment of silence Monday.

Dozens of police officers surrounded Deputy Carl Koontz's police car during Monday morning's ceremony outside the Howard County Criminal Justice Center in Kokomo.

The event was held at 11:10 a.m., 24 hours after Koontz was pronounced dead at an Indianapolis hospital following Sunday's shooting inside a Russiaville mobile home that wounded another deputy.

The gunman, 25-year-old Evan T. Dorsey, was found dead inside following the gunfight.

Koontz was married and had a young son. His widow, Kassandra, requested the moment of silence.

Gov. Mike Pence calls the 27-year-old Koontz a "courageous young man."
