New York dog gets reputation as an artist

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A New York dog gains a reputation as an artist.

His name is Dagger, but he is also known as "Dog Vinci." The 3-year-old black lab was originally planned to be a helper dog for those with disabilities, but he was disqualified because of his fear of stairs.

Then his human, who's also an artist, discovered his love of painting.

"He always lays down next to me, and one day he was nudging me," said Yvonne, Dagger's owner. "And I said, 'Do you want to paint, Dagger?' and his tail started to wag. He was so excited to see the brushstroke on that canvas. It was almost as if his whole world had opened up."

Dagger paints by following his owner's commands. He uses a brush made of duct tape and a paper towel tube.

Dagger's paintings usually sell for between $50 and $100.
