Jurors deliberating in trial of Louisville doctor accused of over prescribing pain meds

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Jurors are deliberating in the trial of a Louisville doctor accused of money laundering, healthcare fraud, and prescribing pills that killed a patient.

George Kudmani is also accused of pocketing money from patients after giving them pain pills without an exam. He took the stand Tuesday in federal court.

Kudmani admitted to writing prescriptions without an exam, because he said he knew the patients were in pain.  He did not admit to taking any money.

The retired physician says he never prescribed pills for people who didn't need them, or performed unnecessary procedures.

Kudmani has given up his medical license.

Closing arguments wrapped up late Wednesday morning and jurors got the case around noon.
