Toyota to provide $175,000 grant to enroll low income families in mentoring program

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Toyota is helping to drive a program to benefit dozens of Louisville families.

A $175,000 grant from the automaker will help 45 families enroll in a new kind of mentoring program. The Toyota Family Learning Program will work to address the education challenges of low income and ethnically diverse families. Parents and children enrolled will be encouraged to reach new educational goals together. Families are also required to participate in service projects, like a cleanup effort with Operation Brightside later this Spring.

"Through Family Learning, parents become better equipped to attain academic success, and through Service Learning, families not only better themselves, but also the city which we all call home," said Jim Blanton, of the Louisville Free Public Library.

Families will participate in the program at the main library and at the Okolona library branch.
