Family members clash at hearing for Louisville man accused of killing infant

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A fight broke out after the man charged with killing a five-month-boy appeared in court, sparking a battle between the boy's mother and the suspect's family.

Both families were at Louisville Metro Corrections Thursday morning as a judge went over disturbing details of what happened to the baby.

The family of 5-month-old Noah Ballard-Jones was there. His mother didn't want to talk on camera, but says her family got into an altercation with the family of 24-year-old Leon Montgomery following his arraignment.

She says Montgomery is her ex-boyfriend.

He's facing murder and first-degree criminal abuse charges, in connection to Noah's death. The baby died last Wednesday at Kosair Children's Hospital, after he had been in a coma for some time. The arrest report says the child suffered fractured ribs, arm and leg fractures, and a fractured skull -- injuries investigators say were all in various stages of healing.

The coroner ruled that Noah suffered multiple blunt force injuries and died of "inflicted trauma."

In court, a judge said Montgomery was supposed to be one of Noah's primary caregivers. His family argues that Noah's mother should also face charges. They say she was in the home as the abuse was happening.

A judge set bond for Montgomery at $500,000.
