JCPS facing significant absences of teachers and bus drivers on Good Friday
There are so many staff members out today that the district is having a hard time filling the spots.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- JCPS is dealing with a lot of absences today, but it's not the students who are out -- it's teachers and bus drivers.
There are so many staff members out today that the district is having a hard time filling the spots. Of the teachers, 625 teachers are absent, which is about 125 more than average.
As of 9 a.m. today, the district had not been able to find replacements for 58 of those absent teachers. In those situations, principals can have other certified staff in the building to cover the absences, or have teachers rotate through during their planning periods.
JCPS has approximately 6,000 teachers. On average about 500 are absent each day.
We're told 153 bus drivers are also out today, which meant there were four routes uncovered, two at Breckinridge Metro High School and two at Minor Daniels Academy.
The district has approximately 1,100 bus drivers. On average, about 120 are absent each day for a variety of reasons -- including sick leave or vacation.
