Crucifixion of Christ, homelessness and racism reflected on as part of 'The Way of the Cross' walk

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A long walk helped people connect the death of Jesus with those suffering today on this Good Friday.

That was the purpose behind The Way of the Cross: The Walk for Justice. About 200 people walked with a cross for several blocks in downtown Louisville.

They were marking the traditional Stations of the Cross, and reflecting on problems people face today including poverty, homelessness and racism.

"It's a long tradition of people of faith coming together to bring attention to justice issues and connecting the death of Jesus and the suffering of Jesus to people who suffer in our world today," said Doug Lowry, a representative of The Way of the Cross: The Walk for Justice.

Today marks the 20th year for this event.
