LOUISVILLE, Ky (WDRB) – A new festival is looking to make it’s mark on Louisville.

The Nulu Bock Fest has it’s roots in 19th century German culture. Traditionally, its marked the changing of the season and when the dark German beer, known as bock, became available. According to organizers of the event, it was a particularly popular holiday in Louisville before Prohibition.

“I've never seen a goat race before, this is great,” said one goat racing fan.

The festival combined German beer with goat racing (“bock” is German for goat).

“I watched some goats and realized they have some serious speed,” one fan said.

With extra people from out of town in Louisville for the NCAA Tournament, it adds an extra level of benefit for area businesses.

“NuLu is a great neighborhood, there's always something going on,” said Madison Kleinhenz, who works at Blofish. “Having Bock fest, it slows people down, it gets them inside the store. It allows us to talk to people to let them know what we're about.”

“We named the new church the Holy Goat, and then we heard there was going to be a whole goat fest happening,” said The Holy Goat co-owner Jessi Arrington.

Those business owners and organizers are hopeful the Bock Festival will be back next year.

“There's all these local businesses that need people to come to them,” Kleinhenz said.
