LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Family and friends of those affected by gun violence in the Louisville area are begging for it to end.

The grandmother and mother of 8-year-old Andre Lamont O'Neal Jr., along with other community members, announced an Anti-Violence walk called "Put Down the Guns."

The family, who lost the 2nd grader in January when he was shot killed at a babysitter's home, will lead the walk next month.

The goal is to gather families who have lost someone to gun violence and those who are gun shot wound survivors.

"It's a big issue in our society," said Porchia Harris, Andre's mother. "It's starting to become a norm, and we need to do something about it. It's our babies, our generation, our younger generations. Let them grow up and be something."

The walk is Sunday, April 10 at 3 p.m. and will start at 18th and Broadway.

Families are encouraged to bring pictures of their loved ones who have been lost to gun violence.
