LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Frankfort man is facing several charges after police say they caught him in the act of assaulting a woman.
According to a news release, it happened Monday. That's when a state trooper saw a vehicle pulled off the right shoulder of Interstate 64 near the 63 mile marker when saw a man attempting to pull a woman out of the passenger side of an SUV. After getting the woman out of the car, the man -- identified as 40-year-old Travis Phillips from Frankfort -- got on top of her and started choking her.
Police say Phillips saw the trooper and turned toward him, and that's when the trooper noticed a knife in his hands. Phillips ignored several commands to drop the knife, so the trooper used his Taser to subdue him.
The woman was treated at the scene by EMS and released.
Phillips was taken to a local hospital for a self-inflicted knife wound. When he is released, he will be arrested and charged with assault, terroristic threatening and resisting arrest.
